Mission Statement
The Leech Lake Temporary Employment Assistance Program was the vision of Chairman LaRose to perform three functions. Its first goal is to fill the need for occasional labor on the Reservation. Using this concept to assist the communities and in the future, governmental and gaming businesses can request or hire short-term employees to fill gaps left by worker illness or the lack of employment with project assignments.
The second goal is to work as a temporary employment position that may lead to full time employment. For many workers new in the workforce, the LL-TEP will give them the alternative opportunity not only to develop a positive work history but to explore the different working environments and opportunities available at Leech Lake.
The third goal is to work with individuals who need a hand-up instead of a hand-out by providing a positive means to employment when there is a lack of jobs.
The Leech Lake Temporary Employment Assistance Program is not a "make work" program. Jobs will not be developed just to put people to work. It is also not a way for communities to create employment or governmental and gaming to cut costs and avoid paying benefits.
